Can you use the basic aspects of component exclusively with the keyboard?
As a rule, it should be possible for the user to perform all basic functions of your component with the keyboard alone. This principle obviously benefits a range of users with impaired movement or other disabilities that prevent the use of a pointing device such as a mouse or touchscreen. But this principle also benefits users generally who temporarily find themselves in situations where mouse or touch interactions are hindered — in cramped quarters or in a moving vehicle.
A component's keyboard shortcuts should usually only apply when the component itself has focus. See Local Effects.
