to have this feature fully functional:

implement slicing for nodes, elements and boundary nodes (see crop function mentioned in add feature: ikle2 / ikle3 as variable #38 )
check if the boundary nodes definition is correct
check if the UGRID conventions applied are correct, especially for 3D meshes
