ArviZ 2020 Roadmap

Osvaldo Martin edited this page Jan 16, 2020 · 1 revision

Make xarray/InferenceData easier to use:

  • Add examples/cookbook of common tasks.
  • Extend functionality.
  • Coordinate workshop/sprint/meeting with xarray devs possibly at aPyData or SciPy conference.

Evaluate how to obtain feedback from users

We tend to get only feedback from particularly strong contributors and coders, not “ordinary users.”

Backends

  • Improve Bokeh integration
  • Evaluate the Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats of other backends, specially Altair.

Move into 1.0 release or production release

Besides the above mentioned goals (specially making xarray/InferenceData easier to use). We need to think about consistency of the API, use of ArviZ's global parameters, styles of plots (including the style acrross backends), etc.

Participate GSoC

Google Summer of Code proposals include details on desired functionality as well https://github.com/arviz-devs/arviz/wiki/GSoC-2020-projects

Generate educational resources

Creation of educational material related to exploratory analysis of Bayesian models with ArviZ. The material will cover topics like data visualization and exploratory analysis of Bayesian models, thus we hope this will help to increase the literacy of the community regarding the theory and good practices related to Bayesian data analysis.

We have a draft here. It will be great to make it public before April 2020, we can keep polishing after that. The proposed TOC is here.
