How To Play

Vazkii edited this page Apr 6, 2013 · 3 revisions

If you've played Stealing Creation in Runescape, this mod will be very familiar to you. But read on, non the less. Crafting Creation is a minigame, like the original, with the intent of collecting as many resources as possible, and being the team with the most resources by the end of the match.

Getting Setup

Before you can play the mod, you need to install it of course. Installation instructions are available in the mod's Minecraft Forums thread. This mod is meant to be played on a dedicated world, preferably a new one, the reason for that being that the gameplay happens in another Dimension, and there's no viable way of leaving it.

To get started, after the mod is installed, you want, being an OP in the server you're playing, grab a Star of Creation, you can do so from the Creative Menu or, if you prefer to distribute them trough your players, the following command might tickle your fancy:

/give @a 13332

This gives all the players their own Star of Creation. Anyway, right clicking the Star of Creation will teleport you to that new dimension I was talking about. The Plane of Creation. In doing so, you'll get assigned the team with less players, we'll get into that in a moment.

Welcome to the Plane of Creation!

Looks really barren right? Well, we can't play in a barren dimension. No problem, we'll get that fixed in a second. But for now, get your friends in that dimension as well with a Star of Creation and let's generate the arena.

The Arena

If you press F3 and have a look at your creations, you'll notice you're relatively close to 0,0. Let's make use of that. Before we can play, we need an arena, so let's spawn one.

/generatemap <x> <z>

In the above command, and are the coordinates at which to generate your map. The map is 161x161, it's reccomended, when generating further maps to go at least 300 blocks away in each direction from the last map so they don't mix. For now, let's create an arena at 0,0. Sounds good.

/generatemap 0 0

Wait a bit and a message in the chat will confirm that the arena was generated. If you look around a bit, you should be able to see it. Approaching it will reveal invisible walls around it, these exist to prevent the players to get out of it during a game. They don't extend too high, so if you're in creative you can fly over them. And here's the arena!

The Arena!

Now let's take a look at what there is to be found in there.

Your Base

If you've played stealing creation this won't need explanation. But it's not very complicated. If you look around you, those blocks with what seems to be a hole in the middle are your team's vault, where you need to put your stuff in order to score points, remember, this is a game about being the team with more stuff in their base, not about the most kills. Those transparent blocks in the walls are the portals, if the portal corresponds your team, you can right click it to traverse it.

The Kiln

The kiln is your crafting table for while you play this, you'll find one right outside your base, and a few others scattered around the map. It's the thing that looks like a chimney and has smoke coming out of the top. Again, a concept you'll definitely remember if you come from Runescape. Looking into one of the four sides of the kiln and right clicking on the block that's flaming will open up the following interface:

Kiln Interface!

The buttons at the top control what item you want to craft. The numbered buttons represent the level of the item. We'll get into how levels work in a moment. You can also see, to the right of the item to get, some text that says how much clay you'll need to create that item, and how much you're holding, for reference. We'll also get, well, right now:

Clay

Soil

Soil!

Rock

Rock!

And Wood

Wood!

Hovering over a piece of clay will tell you what type of clay you're looking at, and it's level. A level 1 piece of clay can be harvested by any item (including your fist). A level 2 piece of clay can be harvested by the appropriate tool (shovel for soil, pick for rock and axe for wood). A level 3 piece of clay can be harvested by the appropriate tool, but that tool needs to be level 2 or higher. The level of clay is higher the closer you are to the center of the map. For level 1 clay, you need to look in the edges.

Altars

There are 2 altars in each map, in the corners where there aren't bases. Right clicking an altar will heal you (both your health and your food) up to a point. It's useful if you're very wounded, but won't serve for much if you just took a little bit of damage.

Note: Anything that isn't described here has no use in the game

Levels and Value

All items (except arrows) in Crafting Creation are based on levels. Each item has it's own level, which you can see via the red number next to the item's icon. Items become more powerful, and more valuable, the higher their level is. In the Kiln, you can only create items with the adequate level, for example. If you want to make a level 3 pickaxe, you'll need level 3 clay. Higher level clay takes longer to collect and is more concentrated.

All items, also, have a value, which you can see in it's tooltip. This value is how much an item is worth (in points) to the team, if it is in the team's Vault. Items that take durability damage become less valuable the more they are damaged.

Playing the Game

Well, now that you know how to play the game you want to start a match. Before you can do that, people need to join a team.

/joinred /joinblue /jointeam

These commands allow you to join a team. joinred and joinblue put you in the red or blue team, respectively, jointeam simply puts you on the team with less players, it's the best for balancing. If you're unsure which team to pick, you can see who's on each team using the following command:

/listteams

And now, with the teams setup, let's start the game. Not a problem, the following command is what you want:

/startgame <time>

In the above command, is the time, in minutes that your match should go for. 15 minutes seems good to me for this example, so does 20, actually, but I'll go with 15:

/startgame 15

And BOOM, everyone gets teleported to their correspondent bases, their inventory gets cleared and they get fully healed and fed and ready to play!

After the countdown ends, the match will end and it's results will get posted in the chat, the winner and the scores of the various teams will be announced. If you'd wish to end the game early for whatever reason, just use:

/endgame 15

And the game will end immediately.

The Interface

The interface for this game isn't very complicated, but let's take a look at it:

Interface

Well, what you can see at the top is pretty obvious, no need to explain that. What you can see in the left is a set of displays of how much clay of each type you're holding. And the display next to your hotbar indicates your bounty, as in, the total value of all the items you're carrying, generally, a higher bounty means you're more powerful, but if you're killed, the enemy team will get that value, so you need to balance.

In order to allow for seeing who's on each team, a health bar, colored on the team the player is in renders over each player, under their name tag.

Changes from Vanilla Minecraft

Some things in this game are a bit different from what you're accustomed to in the vanilla game, make sure to take these in note while you're playing. And these are all intended, not bugs:

  • In the plane of creation, nothing stacks (except for arrows, that stack up to 8)
  • Vaults act similarly to chests, but you can't stack anything in them (even arrows!)
  • Whenever you drop an item (either by pressing Q or lobbing it outside of your inventory screen) that item just returns to your inventory. If you want to give something to a teammate, put it in the vault.
  • You can't block with creation clay swords
  • The creation clay bow can only shoot an arrow if it's pulled back all the way (tip: look at the icon, if the arrow is yellow you can shoot it)
  • The limit of how far arrows can go in the plane of creation is decreased by 25%
  • The only block that can be broken in the plane of creation is the clay
  • You respawn at your team's base
  • You can't shift-click items into the vault. This is intended, and meant for the storing to take longer
  • Friendly fire is disabled by default

And that is all. I hope you enjoy playing Crafting Creation :D -- Vazkii
