The application seems to output the following to the command line, and not show a window:

The window is meant to be drawn by Zenity. I need to figure out how to make the AppImage work if Zenity isn't installed on the system. Any tips on how to approach that? I think I'll have to compile the Zenity binary and include it in my AppImage, right?

Yes. Or make the dialog using whatever your application is using as a toolkit.

If your application is not a GUI application but a command line tool, then don't do any of this but set Terminal=True in the desktop file.
