It’s finally time to release the update to the Play Store and focus on new features.
If everything goes well and the newly submitted strings have been translated on Crowdin by volunteers, the updated will be rolled out to the store next week.

What’s new:

• Niagara’s redesigned logo give’s the N a more refined shape, which especially makes two-toned variants more “readable”
• Edit mode can be opened by long pressing on any app on the main screen
• Updated translations

alpha 6:
• The default width & placement of widgets has changed: Now they’re a bit wider & centered. A s a result, the now obsolete “/ widget centered" option has been removed.

Try out the new edit mode to easily manage your homescreen. Long press on the clock or on the empty space above to:
• add a widget
• quickly add, remove and reorder favorites
• see and (un-)block suggested apps
• Move the whole list vertically
• Change your wallpaper or open Niagara’s settings
• The way how to open edit mode might change.

Besides, Spotify’s media player shouldn't accidentally pop up anymore while downloading songs.

alpha 5:
• The media player won’t appear if the home widget is from the same app.
• A long press above your favorites opens a menu where you can add or edit the home widget, move the clock down, edit your favorites and go to Niagara’s settings.
• A bug that caused widgets to not update has been fixed.

Widget update – alpha 4

What’s new:

• You can choose between three widget horizontal alignment modes: default, centered and filled.
• They are accessible by typing in hidden commands in Niagara’s search: “/widget default”, “/widget centered” and “/widget filled” respectively (every command is case insensitive and can be written without spaces).
• Depending on your feedback they will also be accessible in the final version, but most likely with proper toggles to switch between them.
• “Filled” goes almost edge to edge; it can be used for advanced widget setups. It is recommended to hide the alphabet on the main screen to prevent overlapping.

What’s new in Niagara Launcher v0.8.0-alpha1:
• 🔣 Widget support: You can add one widget above your favorites (Niagara’s settings > Features > Add widget)
• It’s vertically resizable (hold on the widget > Resize). Horizontal resizing and centering will be added in the second alpha
• Fixed a bug in the most used algorithm and make it more precise
• Replaced a couple of icons (e.g. in Niagara’s settings)
• Large parts of Niagara’s source code have been rewritten to improve the code stability in the long term and to make adding features easier

As you may have noticed, 0.7.8a’s workaround for notifications didn’t really help, it even made them not showing up on unaffected devices. That’s why I removed it and tried something else instead.
Looking at open issues online, it seems that every other Launcher has to deal with the same - more than four years old - issue which some still hasn’t been fixed by various phone manufacturers ;(
If notifications broke only in 0.7.8a for you, they might not work again either on 0.7,8a3 because of the reversal until you revoke and re-grant notification access. At least Niagara will now inform you if the third workaround is not working as well and gives you suggestions how to fix it locally.
Moreover, the option to send a log containing all visible notifications has been removed from Niagara’s settings. Instead, you can search for “/notifications” in the app search to get all the information about them, but it’s rather meant for debugging purposes; to check if the launcher extracts the notification’s data correctly.
