This is mostly to raise awareness. I'm not sure what should be done.

I spoke with James Craig (Apple/ARIA) and he suggested that we look into making intent be marked as translatable. He said that tells systems that they can automatically translate the value. aria-label is an example of this. The ARIA spec references the HTML spec about this.

James also mentioned translation can be tricky and said there were ways to enable better translation (with respect to word order, etc) by embedding info in the string. He also said he's not sure if auto-translation makes sense for math.

I read through the HTML and ARIA links, and I think it would indeed be appropriate to add a small subsection Translatable Attributes that incluides intent, similar to how ARIA has done that.

And we likely also want to include alttext as translatable.

Curiously, the MDN page says its main use is to mark that some is not translatable.

@NSoiffer that's the translate attribute preventing a specific content string being translated.
Question is rather whether intent should be specified as translatable
