In the summer of 2013, people from SeriousSite.ru sent an email to Croteam asking for a pre-release version of "Serious Sam". Luckily, Roman Ribaric agreed to the request and shared the old version with the consent of the other members of the Croteam team.

Serious Sam Origins A game that was supposed to come out back in 2000. The first and, as planned, the only game about the adventures of the famous Sam Stone, will finally see the light of day. This is something more than the creation of loyal fans. Serious Sam Origins is the complete story of Sam, as it should have been originally, before it had to be divided into First Encounter, Second Encounter, Serious Sam 2, Serious Sam 3 and the yet to be released Serious Sam 4. In Origins you you will have to visit ancient times and distant planets, use unique weapons and meet legendary opponents. And finally, you will find out how Sam's protracted story could have ended. What is Serious Sam Origins? This is a free modification for Serious Sam: The Second Encounter, developed by a team of people from our site. This is a modification based on the real pre-release version of Serious Sam, kindly provided by Roman Ribaric. It includes a 46-level campaign that should have been in the original Serious Sam long before First Encounter. It uses the original weapons and enemies from the pre-release version of the game, also uses the original HUD and the Y-Knot tactical analyzer instead of the well-known Inertan. It contains levels for the Deathmatch mode from the same pre-release version of the game; the possibility of cooperative play is expected. There are even some materials from the days of In The Flesh. In particular, some enemies. Plus, with Serious Sam Origins, you'll also receive the original design document for the very first version of Serious Sam. Croteam staff gave permission to share it with fans. You are waiting for the battle with Mental. Seriously this time, time to deal with him once and for all! Our team is working on completing the levels from the pre-release version of Serious Sam, merging them into a single campaign and eliminating the problems that are present in the resources provided to us. At the moment, a full-fledged and workable port of the pre-release Sam to the engine version 1.07 is ready. Estimated date of completion of works - New Year.

Unfortunately, for unknown reasons, the Serious Sam Origins team froze the project in 2016 and completely stopped its development.
In parallel, a Polish fan of the game with the nickname Zdzichu announced
the creation of the Serious Sam Alpha Remake modification in the of 2015.
At his disposal was only the leaked Windows assembly Serious Sam Alpha 2000
and the SDK for the First Encounter and Second Encounter.
For those who don't know, the SDK for the First Encounter contains most of the code
that was used in Serious Sam Alpha 2000.
