it is much more convenient to install from a trusted repository:
apt install shadowsocks-rust

This is not possible at the moment. Now there is only the old version shadowsocks-libev.
Please add the program shadowsocks-rust to the official Debian & Ubuntu repository.

This project in many package manager repositories are maintained by volunteers. If anyone interested in publishing this project to Debian & Ubuntu repository, please don't hesitate.

It would be nice if it could be done automatically for every new version released.

This is a fallback option if there is no official repository. It is best to add it to the official repository.
