How to contribute

Shiny Demos is a showcase site highlighting interesting and innovative uses of the latest open web technologies demos, and was created by the Opera Developer Relations Team. What we have created is fine, but we would much rather showcase contributions from the wider web community as well!

So we are waiting for your own contributions — no rewards, no crazy contests, just the simple joy of sharing our love for the open web. Let's push code and pixels.

Getting Started

  • Make sure you have a GitHub account
  • Fork the repository on GitHub
  • Start creating a demo using the [Shiny Demos template](CHRIS - NEED TO PROVIDE LINK)
  • When finished, make a pull request

What are we looking for?

Shiny Demos and double rainbows! Ponies are an option. Basically, we want cool, innovative demos built with the latest open standards. Demos should work across multiple browsers if at all possible, feature as much future proofing code as is sensible, and follow accepted best practices. Use feature detection, and above all avoid user agent sniffing!

We will not accept everything. Life is hard. We reserve the right to not include anything which we think doesn't fit into Shiny Demos. Don't be upset though. Even if your demo doesn't end up landing on Shiny Demos, it is still usable and accessible to everyone on github.

If you want more inspiration, look around the Shiny Demos to see what's up there already. If you have a query of any kind, please contact us (CHRIS - WE NEED TO OFFER A CONTACT MECHANISM.).

Boring licence stuff

  • All your contributions (including images, source code, etc) will be under a liberal license (blahblah license - CHRIS SUGGESTION: I RECKON JUST CC-BY, OR EVEN CC-0/PUBLIC DOMAIN.) .

It means that everything that you will be contributing to shinydemos can be used by anyone else. We don't want to have to enter into complicated legal stuff, do we? Let's just share stuff.

If you are using images be sure that you are able to do so under any licensing conditions the images may have.
