How do you use OSTree Containers from scratch?

I'm having a difficult time figuring out the the commands for achieving the following on a non OSTree system:

1. Build a OCI image locally (with docker/podman)
2. Initialize OSTree
3. Use OCI image from step 1 to create a bootable system using OSTree

What would be the step-by-step approach to achieve this?

Examples in official OSTree documentation would go a far way though, leaving this open for further discussion!
