In this ./example
folder, OVN4NFV-plugin daemonset yaml file, VLAN and direct Provider networking testing scenarios and required sample
configuration file.
Create 2 VMs in your setup. The recommended way of creating the sandbox is through KUD. Please follow the all-in-one setup in KUD. This will create two VMs and provide the required sandbox.
The following setup have 2 VMs with one VM having Kubernetes setup with OVN4NFVk8s plugin and another VM act as provider networking to do testing.
Run the following yaml file to test teh vlan tagging provider networking. User required to change the providerInterfaceName
and
nodeLabelList
in the ovn4nfv_vlan_pn.yml
kubectl apply -f ovn4nfv_vlan_pn.yml
This create Vlan tagging interface eth0.100 in VM1 and two pods for the deployment pnw-original-vlan-1

The main difference between Vlan tagging and Direct provider networking is that VLAN logical interface is created and then ports are attached to it. In order to validate the direct provider networking connectivity, we create VLAN tagging between VM1 & VM2 and test the connectivity as follow.
Create VLAN tagging interface eth0.101 in VM1 and VM2. Just add `providerInterfaceName: eth0.101' in Direct provider network CR.
# kubectl apply -f ovn4nfv_direct_pn.yml
Check the inter connection between direct provider network pods as follow
# kubectl exec -it pnw-original-direct-1-85f5b45fdd-qq6xc -- ifconfig

There are multi CNI Proxy plugins such as Multus, DAMN and CNI-Genie. In this testing, we are testing with Multus CNI and Calico CNI
Install the docker in the Kubernetes cluster node.
Follow the steps in create cluster kubeadm to create kubernetes cluster in master
In the master node run the kubeadm init
as below. The calico uses pod network cidr 10.233.64.0/18
$ kubeadm init --kubernetes-version=1.19.0 --pod-network-cidr=10.233.64.0/18 --apiserver-advertise-address=<master_eth0_ip_address>
Ensure the master node taint for no schedule is removed and labelled with ovn4nfv-k8s-plugin=ovn-control-plane
nodename=$(kubectl get node -o jsonpath='{.items[0].metadata.name}')
kubectl taint node $nodename node-role.kubernetes.io/master:NoSchedule-
kubectl label --overwrite node $nodename ovn4nfv-k8s-plugin=ovn-control-plane
Deploy the Calico and Multus CNI in the kubeadm master
$ kubectl apply -f deploy/calico.yaml
$ kubectl apply -f deploy/multus-daemonset.yaml
Rename the /opt/cni/net.d/70-multus.conf
to /opt/cni/net.d/00-multus.conf
. There will be multiple conf files, we have to make sure Multus file is in the Lexicographic order.
Kubernetes kubelet is designed to pick the config file in the lexicograpchic order.
In this example, we are using pod CIDR as 10.233.64.0/18
. The Calico will automatically detect the CIDR based on the running configuration.
Since calico network going to the primary network in our case, ovn4nfv subnet should be a different network. Make sure you change the OVN_SUBNET
and OVN_GATEWAYIP
in deploy/ovn4nfv-k8s-plugin.yaml
In this example, we customize the ovn network as follows.
data:
OVN_SUBNET: "10.154.142.0/18"
OVN_GATEWAYIP: "10.154.142.1/18"
Deploy the ovn4nfv Pod network to the cluster.
$ kubectl apply -f deploy/ovn-daemonset.yaml
$ kubectl apply -f deploy/ovn4nfv-k8s-plugin.yaml
Join worker node by running the kubeadm join
on each node as root as mentioned in create cluster kubeadm.
Also make sure to rename the the /opt/cni/net.d/70-multus.conf
to /opt/cni/net.d/00-multus.conf
in all nodes.
Create a network attachment definition as mentioned in the multi-net-spec
# kubectl create -f example/multus-net-attach-def-cr.yaml

# kubectl get net-attach-def

Let check the OVN4NFV Multi-networking along with Multus
Create two ovn networks ovn-priv-net and ovn-port-net

# kubectl apply -f example/ovn-port-net.yaml
