Dear Professor,

It was mentioned that you have added 10 extra questions to the MCQ section as a buffer in case we make mistakes. I would like to clarify how this system is supposed to work as I am a bit confused.

Scenario 1:

Assume a student gets all 120 questions correct (every question +0.2 marks). However, in the extra 10 questions, all of them were wrong (every question -0.2 marks). What would be the final mark?

Scenario 2:

Assume a student gets 100 questions correct (+0.2) and 20 questions wrong (-0.2). In the extra 10 questions, all questions were wrong (-0.2). What would be the final mark?

There is no separate category as extra questions. The paper has 130+3 questions, 10 more questions than one would need to get full marks, if all answers are correct. When grading, I would add up all the marks but impose a cap of 24 marks.
One strategy you can use is to choose C (or skip) 10 questions you are least confident of. Alternatively, if you are confident of your answers, you can go ahead and answer all 130, in which case marks you gain from the extra questions will cancel off some of the careless mistakes you might have committed due to fast pace.
Makes sense?

I think I sort of get it. Using scenario 1 from my original question, would it be correct for me to say that this student would actually end up getting less than 24 marks for the MCQ section?

**Scenario 1:**

Assume a student gets all 120 questions correct (every question +0.2 marks). However, in the extra 10 questions, all of them were wrong (every question -0.2 marks). What would be the final mark?

Yes, For scenario 1 the student should get 22 marks.
