Mestastic app for Android Never Asks For Files Permission "Save" Button Does Not Work

I find no permission for file system access. Anyone have any suggestions on how to get the Save button in Export Configuration to work? The Files app on the phone opens and the Recents folder is pre-selected, I can edit the proposed file name but nothing "activates" the Save button. I looked at the full list of permissions the app requests and file access in not there.

I "downgraded" to v2.5.2 after finding that the "release" I was using came from a fork of the main git. The version I was using came from geeksville. I think I google-stumbled onto a release that should not have been visible. I was unable to locate the apk again.
That said, the downgrade to 2.5.2 did not rectify my grayed-out Save button. I went through all the disabled apps that could have anything to do with file management and was unable to get the button to work. There is still no permission got grant or deny with respect to files. (that is a concern... read below)
It would do me a great favor to have help on the dependence this app requires.
I installed 2.5.2 on an Android 5.0 phone and the Save button thing works just fine. Never asked for permission to save files or file access. It should do this.

Found the answer to my question and posted it in the non-programmer's version of the Discussion forum. (why so many different Forums?)
Basically, Meshtastic uses the Download Manager to save a configuration file, much like a web browser does downloads. This is probably why the app never asks for permission to access files as it is side-stepping the "file" concept in favor of the upload / download concept... like moving firmware around between devices unlike moving files around in a filesystem. Still has that "Save" button... should it say "Download" then and say "Upload" when you are sending a configuration "file" back to the radio?

App uses Download Manager and not File Manager in Android 11.
Disabling the Download Manager causes the Meshtastic app for Android 11 to be unable to move configuration files through the Import or Export features.
