Brand assets (aka. Brand Kit) on Website #278
Comments
I agree it would be great to have a proper Brand Kit on the website, with easy-to-consume assets and guidelines. There is a MapLibre Figma Project with logos etc. in vectorized format, but it also contains lots of drafting etc. which is confusing to an end-user, and it's necessary to use Figma plugins (like "SVG Export", "downloadPNG") or simple screenshots to get the data out. We don’t have a paid Figma Team subscription yet for MapLibre, so it's still living as a Project under my personal Team plan, which I have anyway. If we setup a paid Figma Team, I'm happy to readily transfer it over, and I can grant edit access to anyone from the Team/Board who needs it, just ping me. I think a Team plan for MapLibre would cost ~ 12$/month. View the Figma Project - https://www.figma.com/design/rah3VWd6vWe5XYEevDbkvP/MapLibre?node-id=38-2052&t=QRSKv8tGtniKlYz1-1 |
@birkskyum that Figma file is already quite helpful, could only find the link to the old one. |
@birkskyum Another interesting option might be to port it over to PenPot https://penpot.app/ It's FOSS and cost free to use for our use case. |
Figma really is an excellent piece of software, they keep impressing me. l have literally not had technical issues with Figma for at least 3-4 years now, and for the basics it's almost only the state of being closed-sourced/licensed and the price that can be meaningfully improved on. It's irrelevant for a Brand Kit, but I'm curious to see if they'll soon announce there vision for a combined design-dev-code-sync workflow (something AI-enabled that's much closer to the code than Dev mode, to eat Builder.io's lunch). The Figma price tag - it would be nice to have it lower, but the productivity boost of Figma compared to the solutions before it which were also paid easily made it worthwhile ( I've used both the macos-only Sketch and shortly tried Zeplin ). That said, PenPot looks great too! I've never heard of it, but if it's feature-wise like Figma, that's awesome! I'll look into it - it seems like there's some options for exporting/migrating: |
We should make the MapLibre logo in various sizes available on the website in SVG and PNG logos.
