Meaning: Tingiverse likes, GitHub Stars and similar ratings would be mapped to an OKH setting.

NOTE This request is not asking for a way to be able to rate the project from the LOSH site.

This request was relayed to me through Johannes (the Oskar Braile-Keyboard project guy),
who got it from blind and visually impaired young-lings, who prefer to see if a project is well received when filtering, so they do not have to manually check that on each projects Web UI.

Specifically for the stated use-case/example though,
I suspect it would make sense to have multiple ways of ratings,
e.g.:

  • (GitHub) Stars
  • Follows
  • number of contributors
  • years of activity
  • last activity
  • number of commits
  • number of commits in the last 12 months
  • ... more?

for non-SCM based platforms, most of these values would have the value "N/A".

it is definitely something people would find useful when scrolling through LOSH data. however, we'd need to have a good crawling plan in place; otherwise this information would likely be outdated most of the time

Thinking about this ...
This should/could actually be something external:
There should be a third-party service that rates/compares projects on different platforms, using a variety of metrics, and making them all comparable.

Very similar issue with similar findings:
https://gitlab.fabcity.hamburg/OTFN/toolchain/-/issues/17

They came up with using external tools too; some possible candidates:
