Currently only utf8 encoded subtitle format is supported, so a separate conversion step is needed to use non-utf8 subtitles.
I don't know how much work it could be but It seems to me that the project uses boost, so this could be useful: http://www.boost.org/doc/libs/1_52_0/libs/locale/doc/html/charset_handling.html.

Also include a sample subtitle file.
