How to auto-format Latex with a prettier plugin?

I have installed prettier and this plugin: https://github.com/siefkenj/prettier-plugin-latex
If I run prettier main.tex --write in the terminal, everything works and prettier correctly formats my .tex file.

How can I configure languages.toml so that it automatically works on save.

This doesn't work:

Prettier needs to know which parser to use: the file is passed through prettier on stdin so it doesn't know the filename. This configuration might work using a similar trick as TSX: https://github.com/helix-editor/helix/wiki/External-binary-formatter-configuration#prettier

Yeah, I have already tried that. Unfortunately it doesn't work.

Does it work to tell prettier the parser to use with the --parser argument? cat file.tex | prettier --parser tex?

Or prettier --parser latex-parser (based on https://github.com/siefkenj/prettier-plugin-latex/blob/9c13009f391166883e576db31889068eb6e31c6c/src/standalone.ts#L18)?

This has changed with the most latest version of prettier (3), and it no longer automatically detects plugins. You are required to pass in the plugin path (no biggie), but Helix then infers:
2024-04-22T10:51:33.750 helix_view::document [ERROR] Formatter error: [error] Cannot find package '/path/to/node_modules//' imported from /path/to/porject/noop.js

The parser command I used was:
formatter = { command = "prettier", args = ["--plugin", "/path/to/the/node_modules/prettier-plugin-latex/dist/prettier-plugin-latex.js"]}.

Any suggestions?
