Templating Engines

Are there any plans to integrate a templating engine like Cheetah or Jinja in Guardrails? At the moment having a template with logic in Guardials is a chore.

Hey @AnupJoseph, thanks for starting this discussion. We don't currently have plans for integrating with any templating engines, but we're always open to hear about new use cases that could enhance the user experience of Guardrails.

How would you envision using something like Cheetah or Jinja with Guardrails?

When you reference a "template with logic", what are some examples of the logic you're trying to perform? Is this logic something that could be addressed by a custom Validator? Or is it more of a chaining/workflow scenario, or something else entirely?

Hi @CalebCourier , thanks for the reply.
My use case is something like this - We have a prompt which is slightly changed (2 lines are added and one line is removed) depending on one of variable inputs to the prompt. Currently we are implementing this in the templating layer with Jinja and injecting the result template to rail.xml file. Ideally I would like to do hold both the prompt template and the RailSpec in one file.
On second thoughts, looking at the custom Validator API integrating any templating engine is unnecessary. I could modify the Rails XML slightly with a new XML element say <JinjaTemplate/>, which will hold the Jinja code and just run a custom preprocessor on it which will return the correct template before passing it through to the .from_rails API.
