Android Device Compatibility List
In general any 'high end' device with Android 3.1 or later should work fine with this application. There is no need to 'root' the phone. Lower end devices may or may not support USB host mode (but even low end recent devices usually have such support).
If anyone already has a device with >=3.1 and <4.2, don't worry. The app will continue to work, but it is possible to get much better USB throughput with 4.2 or later.
Most anything that uses mavlink should work (in theory). Please add tested software below:
- ArduPilot
- ArduCopter
- MegaPirateNG
- PX4
- 3DR radios direct USB connect to tablet
- RFD900 long range radios direct connect to tablet
- XBee direct to tablet
- $10 bluetooth adapter direct connect to XBee modem
- $10 bluetooth adapter direct connect to APM
(Understand that Cell Phones use firmware from provider, customized by provider so the below list does not guarantee your device will work- the list below is provided by people who have successfully used it, we do not know what cell provider they used or which specific firmware or version they are operating on)
- The 2013 edition of the Nexus 7" for non english users has a USB software bug (that google will hopefully fix soon). See https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=58277 or this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iSUqUYd1wN8 for a workaround. Google Nexus 7". The 'gold standard'. There are nicer tablets and cheaper tablets, but the price is good and the software support from Google is top notch.
- Archos GamePad (Andropilot supports the built in joysticks)
- Google Nexus 10"
- Samsung Galaxy Nexus
- HTC Droid DNA
- Motorola Xoom
- Motorola Xoom/3G
- Motorola Droid RAZR Maxx HD
- ACER Iconia WTAB500
- ACER Iconia A500/A501 - 10" tablet, full size USB port, no adapter needed
- Samsung Galaxy S
- Samsung Galaxy S2
- Samsung Galaxy S3 - micro USB, needs adapter
- Samsung Galaxy S4 - micro USB, needs adapter
- Samsung Galaxy Note II
- Samsung Galaxy Tab II
- Vizio VTAB1008
- GT-I93000
- ASUS Transformer Infinity TF700
- Work great on the Toshiba Thrive tablet - Thrive has built in USB A port no adapter needed. Tested on Xbee 900mhz. Nice work.
- HTC One X+
- Sony Xperia Pro MK16i flashed with Android 4.0.4
(please include notes about special steps needed)
- YARVIK XENTA 10ic - You'll need to manually install the latest google maps before Andropilot will work.
- PIPOv2 - Needs a kernel update installed?
- Nexus 4 - USB is apparently missing 5V, so they turned the feature off in software. A xda-forums build might work, but you'd need a powered hub. See bug.
- AllWinner - This super cheap tablet apparently has a bug in their USB implementation.
- SmartPad (Mediacom M-MP75S23G) - Another cheap clone - apparently has a busted Google Play Services (maps) implementation.
