This is a page that attempts to list the currently working dictionary servers.
The most important dict server is is dictd
from the DICT Development Group, available almost locally, at http://sourceforge.net/projects/dict/
Others include:
- GNU Dico – modular, actively maintained, comes with a client and a front-end, supports several dictionary formats and provides libraries for multiple programming languages
- Javadictd – with PostgreSQL support, not maintained since 2003
- Jdictd – in Java, not maintained
Note that running a server is not exactly equal to making your dictionary database available to others on the Net. It is useful, however, to have a local server that you can use to verify if your dictionary works as it should.
