There has been documented UX friction with the login icon in its old position not being recognized. It being under the user avatar may help here.

The new page button could just be a plus, since (AFAIK) it is never shown outside of the context of the page menu.
Then again that doesn't convey that it will put you into edit mode.

Another way to think about it is "I don't care that I'm creating a page right now, I just want to edit this", which would speak for the page creation icon just being the edit icon. From that perspective this is actually close to the perfect compromise.
