We've used django-vinaigrette to allow translation via .po files for status names which were hard-coded in the database and this has worked well for now.

Starting in our next major version these statuses will be available via django admin and users can add their own statuses or edit existing ones.

Is there any recommendation or possibility for them to translate these newly added names?

The only thing I can think of is bundling their .po/.mo files with the app itself, which for the majority of users will be equivalent to building their own downstream distribution of the app and is not really a feasible option.
