On behalf of all Cruiser users, thank you very much for releasing the new version. The charts are cool... but I don't know how to make the chart full screen yet 🙂

So far I only have a problem with the on-screen buttons. I can launch navigation and then almost nothing else. I have to tap the navigation key a few times to pause, other keys get stuck similarly. This only happens during active navigation. When viewing the map, everything is OK.

This happens on my tablet (whether in portrait or landscape) but not on my phone, so it's device-specific. Additionally, it may work well for a while and then not. Worst 🤔

I installed Cruiser on the good old first-generation Pixel. Unfortunately, I can also confirm that the buttons do not work properly here! Fresh installation, nothing changed, only one area of ​​BRouter downloaded. I didn't even turn on the charts. After activating navigation, it is not always possible to stop it by long pressing the navigation key (this never works in the simulation). As already written, it happens every few presses.

S20 user here - I also observe "random" Navigation-button long-press ignores. Short tap is 100% reliable, Nav/off/Nav/off etc. Long-press, regardless of there being a route line under it - occasional "ignore" moments. When it is ignored, the buttons disappear, so it's as if it can't "feel" the press.

It doesn't seem overly intrusive, but wanted to let you know that you're not alone 😀

Indeed, it can be achieved this way. But due to the low panel height and thick fingers, this is almost impossible (I mean the top panel when navigating, because a full-screen chart is easier to deal with). Maybe it would be better if the Y axis was always automatically set based on min/max within the visible range of the X axis?

But this is something to think about later, because it's less important than the stubborn keys 🙂

I do sure not ask to follow this "playful example" with Garmin Icons due to conflict.
Since this does not fit together with a sym u-turn type via combination in a navtrack.
The current Cruiser Via and Shaping point Icons do sure suffice for me.

Locus unfortunately does not support a u-turn via combination.
Contrary in Cruiser, the u-turn is very important and usefully used.
If you have something rare or extra to share, it can be done as follows.

We would like the side panels to be as narrow as possible to leave room for the map. Currently, the distance panels shows the accuracy to one decimal place. It seems to me that this is unnecessary accuracy for distances ≥ 10 km/mi (alternatively ≥ 100 km/mi?). This panel is the widest, determining the width of the entire set of panels.

Maybe in the case of large distances it can be rounded to whole numbers?

I noticed that the "GPS recording" panel is active during navigation, even though only "Browse map" is selected in its settings.

When GPS recording is on, the panel appears for user notification and easy access.
The panel status in display settings is for when the GPS recording is off.

But maybe this setting should also include navigation while recording? I like to have a track saved so I can see it on the map during my current trip, but I'm not particularly interested in its length. After the trip, when the Cruiser switches to " Browse map" mode, I use the panel to decide whether to delete or save it.

Indeed most map / navigation apps do not display the zoom level.

However we need it for the app settings (e.g. navigation auto zoom), favorites visibility, etc.
But we should not fill the app with similar data and settings, it is confusing for many users.

Probably we should replace the map scale setting with a zoom button label setting
and display the zoom level again with the zoom buttons.

(similarly to the bearing label with the compass).

• Map in the front row with a new menu Offline maps

• Offline maps opens on the local maps screen and handles everything:

  • Mapsforge maps are automatically downloaded with their POI and BRouter data
  • Activation of Mapsforge or OpenAndroMaps maps also activates their POI
  • Update of Mapsforge maps also updates their POI
  • World map appears on the local maps screen of all providers for easy use

• BRouter and GraphHopper menu move in Routing

• Downloads menu is removed

The idea is for users to avoid multiple downloads and just use the "Offline maps" for everything.
Of course more automation improvements can be made and will be available step by step.

Downloading maps could be a long process (depending on wifi connection). I think that's useful to decide when update (and what maps update). If you are on a public wifi or hotel low speed (or low signal coverage) it could take hours. If you are on travel, sometimes there are not enough time to do it and sometimes is prefferable leave as is.

Then user can decide when and what to update.

POI downloader is available with the extended menu, as most users do not need it.
"Offline maps" is universal to manage everything related to downloads (maps + poi + BRouter).

Small thing... If extended menu is on, only one POI file is active even if several OAM maps are active. You can see it in the POI download menu.
If extended menu is disabled, the problem does not exist. Only if you disable the menu and then the POIs are not re-activated... Maybe you have to check it.

Maybe the map icon in the map folders can be extended with small letters "POI" in order to indicate that POIs are available and activated. Therefore freizeitkarte maps do not have this indication, and the world background map too.

Indeed, this would probably be a good simplification. I don't know about others, but by trial and error I set the same value (130%) for Icon size (waypoints) and Icon size (markers).

For simplification I propose that the (small) world map is always available in the downloaded maps folder. You can activate, deactivate and maybe update it but not delete it. A new user will not find this feature. Maybe you can place the world map below the map theme with a unique icon and call it "background"...?

Just trying beta-11 and I was prompted to an available update (Canary Is). I went into the Map area and started the download. Both the Map and POI file updated however the POI file activated automagically but the Map did not. I only had the Great Britain map active, no other Maps or POIs.

I'm guessing that both should activate or neither 😕

I found the same "travelType": "Car" entry in two files (2.json and 7.json). I simply deleted 7.json and everything went back to normal. The files have been renumbered 🙂

As I wrote earlier, it could have happened that I had my own profile in another device and the numerical names got mixed up during synchronization (perhaps ended with a copy version error, or something like that). It's easy to reproduce: just copy any default profile, even with any name, and Cruiser will renumber the files and create a clone.

I think this is such an unusual and specific case that it is not worth changing anything in the application. Theoretically, during proper synchronization, a 1:1 copy of the folder should be made (including custom profiles whose names are included in the .json file), but in my case something went wrong 🙂

Edit: The only thing I can think of is maybe putting user-created profiles in a subfolder (?). But it's really not necessary. There's no need to complicate things 🙂

Yes, I simply simulated a duplicate file when external tools failed to sync.

This is not Cruiser's fault, so it is happening as a result of non-standard actions on the user's part. I guess you can't predict all the weird user behavior 🙂

Android UI is probably not meant to change like this on a system basis with such advanced settings.

All other Cruiser size settings are implemented specifically for their purpose and should always work.

Running b16 I made some weird observations (which even I myself can't reproduce 100% when trying): it seems that the "Route diagram" switch in Settings > Navigation > Display is not reliably stored "per profile", but globally!?? At least "sometimes"!?

It seems it is related to duplicated profiles. Have profile A > duplicate it to B > change the setting in B > it is changed also in A. When then being changed back to its original setting in A, it stays in the new setting in B.

Am I going crazy or is there really an issue @devemux86?

It's not a double - sometimes you have two adjacent fuel stations

This is correct, there may be the same POI on both sides of the route.
And by rounding their distance, a similar distance is displayed.

We can check this if we zoom in at that map location.

You can select the route side in "Search | Advanced" settings.
(default is right + left)

Also, stop simulation is again with tap navigation button for convenience
and to be similar to Android back button that stops simulation immediately.
Navigation has 3 states (on - pause - off) and Android back button follows them as well.

The buttons just allow to select again the start after we press navigation button (needed in the old simulation).

My thought is as simulation starts anywhere and we adjust this easily by moving the map before press nav button,
we could allow it to run immediately when press nav button and remove these 3 buttons and their extra step?
