I'm using 1.0 of the Hacker News widget from the Play store on a Galaxy S23+ with Android 14 & OneUI 6.1.

Just as the title says, I've got the option selected to open the links in my default browser, but it is opening them in HackerNews App Browser despite my selection.

@pogue thanks, I'll look into this. Is this via the app or an app widget on a home screen?

Inside of the app it will open in my default browser. In the widget it opens in the HackerNews App Browser. Brave is my default browser on Android if that makes any difference.

@pogue I tested via widget and app with Brave and unfortunately it was still working in both. One thing though, there is a separate settings inside the app, which could be set differently than the widget?
