Describe the bug
My Vimeo background is a looping 3:56 video. It stops after 2x iterations and a few seconds into the 3rd at the same spot, every time, and does not recover. (Roughly 8 minutes). I reproduced on both a PI 5 on 4.02 and on my laptop in Chrome using the screen view.

To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behavior:
Choose a long Vimeo video as your screen background
Watch it until it breaks
Reboot to do it again

Expected behavior
A video loop that continues to loop without legitimate network issues

Screenshots
None available

Device Type (please complete the following information):
Raspberry Pi 5
Lenovo Thinkpad

Desktop (please complete the following information):

  • OS: Dakboard 4.02 and Windows 10
  • Browser Chrome
  • Version [e.g. 22] <- will check

Additional context
Will note, I switched to a shorter Vimeo and had to leave so I couldn't monitor. I don't believe this is an OS issue, but either Chrome or Vimeo integration.

Hi @HussX,

Been trying to recreate this but have been unsuccessful so far. I have been using a MAC OS ARM based machine using chrome on Version 122.0.6261.111 (Official Build) (arm64).

Will try a Pi5B on 4.02 shortly, if you can open a developer console on your windows machine (probably f12) and share any console errors that may help us identify the issue further when this fails.

@HussX

Thanks for the update, tested this on a 4.02 RPi 5 with a video of similar length to your bug description and not experiencing any issues. Let me know what you find from your additional test.

Switching back to the original video, it did the same thing. Background Vimeo link is https://vimeo.com/695737133
It plays through a couple times without issue and then goes to the attached image with no recovery.

Also, Chrome on my laptop is 123.0.6312.88.
I reverted back to the short video for now and that one is looping fine.

Hi @HussX

I'm testing this on the 4.03 release on Pi5 hardware here and I will see if I can recreate the issue. Hope to have an update shortly on our findings.

@HussX

I was hoping to get more information from vimeo, but fromt he developer console I dont get any clear errors. I get the same response on both my workstation and pi5 running the latest DAKboard OS, which is that the video eventually goes away to be replaced with a spinning circle, and the audio eventually goes away too:

Since we are embedding their page as an iframe, we dont actually have any control over the pages behavior. After doing a little bit of digging, I actually see a reported issue with Vimeo that matches what we are finding. I would suggest subscribing to this issue and considering using youtube in the interum:
vimeo/player.js#974

Will close this issue for now but can reopen if we have more information thats actionable.
