Perhaps for adding roles, you could use reactions to a message to add and remove roles. This makes it easier to do, and is a lot less effort, and not as much spam. I have been using this is the Coding Comrades discord, with the bot I have made.

Unfortunately we have too many roles for that to be effective. So the root issue is it's a pain to add roles right now. We'll have integration with our new member portal in a few weeks which should have a nicer interface for managing roles.

I'd also be happy adding a feature where you can react to a specific message in the #roles channel. Each message would represent a role so you could scroll through and react to the ones you want to join. I'll have a look at this after the member portal integration.
