What happened?

When I use ipsw kernel kexts 23G93__MacOS/kernelcache.release.Mac15,3_4_5_12_13 I am able to see all kexts, but I am unable to extract all of them when using ipsw kernel extract --all --verbose 23G93__MacOS/kernelcache.release.Mac15,3_4_5_12_13. Specifically I am missing all the kexts that are listed at 0x7fffffffffffffff. I searched the guides, issues and Google, but couldn't find anything related to this.

How can we reproduce this?

  1. Grab https://updates.cdn-apple.com/2024SummerFCS/fullrestores/062-52859/932E0A8F-6644-4759-82DA-F8FA8DEA806A/UniversalMac_14.6.1_23G93_Restore.ipsw
  2. ipsw extract --kernel UniversalMac_14.6.1_23G93_Restore.ipsw
  3. ipsw kernel extract --all --verbose 23G93__MacOS/kernelcache.release.Mac15,3_4_5_12_13

Observe how for instance com.apple.kpi.bsd will be missing.

ipsw version

Version: 3.1.537, BuildCommit: 87806ca0bb5c255911f7b54def37536161e6e54c
