Temperature (nowcast) dataset🌡

This dataset contains temperature nowcast for Norway and includes both a a purely model based prediction and one where a dense network of citizen weather observations from Netatmo have been used to correct the prediction locally. The variable is instantaneous temperature for leadtime 0h. The time period is July 13 2017 - July 17 2018. Data is available for 253 observations point locations in Norway. Predictions are provided every hour. Only deterministic nowcast are available in the files. The dataset is published on Zenodo at https://zenodo.org/record/8001876.

Prediction systems
Three prediction systems are provided:

• NWP.nc contains forecasts for the MetCoOp ensemble prediction system, which is the operational limited area model used by MET Norway, SMHI, and FMI. The grid spacing of the model is 2.5 km and a single ensemble member is provided (the ensemble control run). Data has been downscaled to 1km using a dynamic gradient approach.
• NWP_Netatmo.nc uses an optimal interpolation technique (see references below) to merge NWP data with citizen weather observations from Netatmo. The verifying observations have not been used in this prediction.
• NWP_NetatmoQC.nc is the same as NWP_Netatmo.nc except that the Netatmo observations have undergone quality control to remove suspicious observations.
