Adapter confirmed working with HP 561FLR-T - we might want a compatibility list? #3
Comments
Seems that the ixgbe driver may have issues as I cannot get connectivity over the 2nd ethernet port under Proxmox - this appears to be fine in Windows 10. |
Thats nice, im thinking to try it. Is the model 700699-B21 you tested with the rev a? |
I resolved this issue - Proxmox wasn't setting things on the CLI despite being set in the GUI. All my adaptors are they rev a. |
I'm having a similar issue - only 3 out of 11 of my 561FLR-T cards seem to be working with the rev.A adapter - the others are not detected at all. I cannot find any real differences between the cards, they seem to be identical. Also the cards heat up to the same degree as the working ones. Any ideas? |
Works for me too! Thank you for the driver link, I spent way too long looking through HP’s website. Now time to try to use it on Linux… |
I have just purchased one on Ebay with an adequate PCIE X8 to FlexibleLOM adapter. The listing title is "701525-001 700699-B21 700697-001", so I don't know wich one I will get... To be continued [edit] The seller just responded, he will provide a "701525-001", so I'm up to a good start I guess... |
Also running a 701525-001. Interestingly it prevents my Dell T3600 from booting but it runs fine and gets detected in a newer machine. Very weird how it doesn't want to boot, while the card is getting power and link lamps turn on. |
Hi, i did the same exact thing and i use x570 platform too but i can't get it to work. The 10Gbe card only gets recognised as ethernet controller in device manager, under other devices, only when i turn off the psu for a while and then start it up as normal. When i reboot the system the card will not show up in device manager. When i install the drivers (when it gets recognised) the card will vanish from device manager. Any suggestions? |
A hot boot causing issues suggests the machine might not be "turning off" the card properly during shutdown and it gets stuck in some inaccessible state preserved by remaining powered (which is flushed by actually being powered down.) I'd double check the correct drivers are installed, try toggling any card power saving features off and disable Windows fast boot if it is enabled (causes hibernation shenanigans) and see if that helps. |
Oh okay, tomorrow when i wake up i'll try that, and let you know. Thank you for your time. |
Hi guys, please don't quote the previous message if you respond to it directly anyway or don't refer to one of its part only. Anyway, I have received the hardware and installed it without issues other than one screw was too small to mount the card to the adapter so I used some tape. At the end I paid $14 for the card and $8 for the adapter. I have Windows 10 with the latest updates, without hibernation and fastboot enabled, with the driver given by the top comment. |
There is firmware that you may need to flash to the 561FLR. If you can't get it detected in Windows I would suggest that you use a bootable Linux distro to flash the new firmware, it may improve stuff. I'm however still not having any luck getting the OROM to boot, I'm just stuck with a flashing cursor when BIOS tries to load it. Seems it isn't compatible with my board. |
I have found this post seemingly well detailed on how to update the board firmware : servethehome.com - 10 and 40 Gb networking on the cheap ($5 - $10). [edit : ok funnily enough that's the same guy as this Github owner lol]
You could try to manually put the PCIE port to 8x in the BIOS |
I don't have such options on my BIOS. I'm going to try and get a BIOS mod in place. I'll have a bit of reading to do before though. |
BIG DISCLAIMER: my english is bad. Another thing i did was going into the bios settings and change the pcie to gen 2.0 and 3.0 but in both cases nothing changed. I've also tried mounting it on a intel 6th gen build but it doesn't get recognised at all, even if i shut down the psu for a while. i have now messaged the ebay vendor i got the flexiblelom to pcie adapter(see picture) from and he said that he will send me another adapter; The reason behind messaging him is that i've read this article : |
For anyone having problems with posting or getting the cards to load despite having correct drivers; try to block the SMBUS pins with some electrical tape. It's pin 5 and 6. I was trying to get another NIC to work for ages and I came across a weird forum post that basically said that the SMBUS pins are misused sometimes to pause during post. Linked to this |
I have installed a HP 701525-001 ETHERNET 10GB 2-PORT 561FLR-T ADAPTER 700699-B21 700697-001 today into my Windows 10 Machine (x370 mobo) and confirmed basic functions are working fully.
I may eventually do some performance testing but this is my only 10GB card installed so far.
