Tall, thin objects tend to be pulled by the filament and wobble as they are printed and that causes print failures near the end of the print. I'd like to see improvements for manually painted supports on vertical surfaces to make such models more stable during the print. Usually, support painting on vertical surfaces is ignored. I've only been able to do so with one specific model.
This model was a tall tube 100 mm high, 4 mm OD, 3 mm ID. Shown here with support on one side, but it worked better with two small “spots” manually painted on opposite sides.
Support x/y distance was 0.01mm, so the supports did not actually touch the model, but did restrict the wobbling.
My attempts to paint vertical surfaces on other models or wobbly surfaces have failed to generate any supports.
