I'm currently trying to combine different materials such as PETG and PLA and this material combination is notoriously known for its poor adhesion to each other. By using the segmentation and interlocking method implemented (or with help of modifier structures) I was able to attach both materials with some pretty strong connections. Though this leads to quite some time modifying the print in the prepare stage. It would be ideal to make some interlocking function in OrcaSlicer that automatically interlocks regions of different materials or colors. For instance alternating the walls of the different materials and include also an option to set the depth of these alternating layers (or interlocks) to improve the adhesion without using the color painting. Since the painting option to select the interlocking region works great for surfaces but it is hard to replicate and is not possible for internal structures you want to interlock as well.
