markdown formatting does not switch to code view on edit mode

Describe the bug
When using markdown, you write the message in code mode. Then it is displayed in the preview mode.

It seems to have issue switching back to code mode when editing it, instead it is displayed in some strange intermediary state, where linebreaks are for example smaller than complete blank lines.

When then sending that text it is used as code though, so all formatting and linebreaks are gone.
