Goal:

  • have NASA blog stories on the NASA site, so that all in one place/portable
  • We point so many people to nasa openscapes website; help it look alive (so much on about page but pretty hidden/not visible)

Plan:

@jules32 I need a bit more info to do this. I can create a "blog" section of site; wondering how to make it super easy to cross-post blog posts with zero (wishful thinking) extra effort beyond cp-paste of a .qmd file

@stefaniebutland I will do the first work on this today. We'll catalogue more ideas here that we can continue to tackle this fall. NASA-Openscapes/NASA-Openscapes.github.io#19

For now, we'll start copying posts with the nasa-framework tag (n=20). https://openscapes.org/blog#category=nasa-framework. The workflow for cross-posting will likely be: copying the whole post folder (e.g. 2023-10-17-matlab-on-openscapes) from website-new to nasa-openscapes.github.io since we need the images too. I do this in Finder on MacOS.

  • Move 7 most recent blog posts. These have images saved within the post folder.
  • Move 2023-05-11-pathway-cloud-computing - copy images that were saved in the old openscapes.org website megafolder img
  • Decide how to handle remaining earlier posts, that would also need images copied.

Notes for translating images with R to markdown:

image
  • remove quotes around the .png (UWG2023_Cloud_Environment_Opportunities_2i2c.png)
  • width not fig-width, but otherwise the same (e.g. fig-alt)
  • = not : (width="75%")
  • double check there's opening and closing quotes around fig-alt and width

I also removed URLs from alt-text, since they would be read out loud

Hi @stefaniebutland would you be able to come back to this to finish?

For that third check-list above, it will involve identifying a list of old NASA related posts to move. Then we can tackle based on priorities. I noticed today that searching for Champions doesn't include 2022, so that would be a good one to start with.

Thank you!

Thanks Stef. I remember we also created https://nasa-openscapes.github.io/news/2022-12-31-previous-news/ to help people find those 10 posts remaining.

Are you ok to leave as is and close issue or do you want those copied over?

We decided to leave this for now, label “good first issue” and add to Backlog so that it’s a way people could contribute if they wanted to
