Struggling to get Emulated Zones working on Vista 20p

I've been using this for months and it's been great. I recently tried to get emulated zones working and I've ran into some issues.

I've updated to the latest dev build and it hasn't fixed my issues. I started by enabling expanderAddr1 and setting it to 8 for zones 17-24. I then added the zone on the vista system and added it to the chime to test if the vista system is getting the signal. I then used the _set_zone_fault service to trigger my new zone and the vista system didn't chime. I then decided to enable the second expander for 7 to test if my working door wireless zones chimed when triggered from HA, and they did not. And going to my 6160, there is no acknowledgement from it that a zone fault has occurred.

Looks to me like you did not configure the zones/expanders in the Vista Panel in program *56 because from what i see in your posted logs, the virtual expanders are passing the details over to the panel. You show 2 expanders there. The second FA cmd shows the expander at address 07 with assigned zone 16 (0x10). the first one is the virtual expander at address 08 with zone 17 (0x11).

Ok, so I went through and added the 08 address to the *79 menu and zone 17 to *80 with the Output No being 08. I also double checked that 17 was in *56 and *81. In *56, I just added the zone and used star to skip through the wireless address portion.

After exiting the programming menu, I got a Check 108 Wire Expansion. So I removed all those changes I made, and it still has that error. I tried adding an expander at address 09 and zone 25 in all the menus and got both a check wire expansion for 108 and 109. I removed everything related to expander 09 and zone 25 and the error message went away for 109, but not 108.

The check message is normal since it means that you have the panel program correctly for the extender. The messages means it did not see the expander response yet for address 08. But, first make sure the extender works with the zones before messing with the *79 and *80 relay programming. That's not needed to see zone faults.

When you get a check message, enter your + 1 to a couple times to clear messages and see if it comes back. Normally once the panel gets the FA response from the esp, it will see it's there and stop sending out the message. It's a supervisory thing. If the message comes back, check to make sure you do have the address setup in the expander variable in the yaml.

Just to clarify. The only program you need to worry about for zone extenders is *56 where you program your zones ie 17-24 ... etc
Programs *79 and *80 are only used for relay extenders.

Ok, back to only address 08 as an expander and I've cleared everything out of *79 and *80. Turns out I left something in *79 and that was causing the check error.

I ended up re-doing the zone in *56 and trying a different input type... And now it works. My problem is that I was telling it that it should be a wireless sensor...

For posterity, this is what my zone settings are to get it working:

Good point. I will add that to the help text in the yaml so others won't get tripped up on that.
