Some developers use "plain" (not SemVer) Git tags to label releases. It would potentially be convenient to use Perseus to store and track the dependency trees of those releases.
The catch is that Perseus was designed around tracking Go module dependencies and those are always identified by a SemVer tag. Supporting other tag formats would be a significant rework.
