Niagara Launcher v1.8.9 beta · 🌄 First Morning Mode Preview

We are excited to announce the beta launch of our next digital wellbeing feature—morning mode. It is designed to help make phone usage in the morning more healthy and balanced. During the beta phase, we invite everyone to try morning mode and provide feedback to help us fine-tune the feature.

📝 Note for Samsung users
If you're using Niagara Launcher on a recent Samsung device, Morning Mode can't show you the phone usage reminders prominently by default. We recommend turning off the brief notification style for Niagara Launcher to change that; here's how: go to System Settings > Notifications > Apps to show as brief > uncheck Niagara Launcher.

Niagara Launcher v1.8.8 beta · Bugfix Update

🐛Bugfix
We fixed Niagara Launcher not showing reinstalled apps. Why this bug occurred in the first place: Android tells us if the metadata of an app (like icon and text) has changed, which triggers various processes to ensure the changes are reflected on your home screen. We recently found out that some apps constantly tell Android that this is the case (we even found one culprit that does this every minute!), and Android happily lets us know. Since v1.8.7, we're checking if the metadata change is relevant to us to reduce battery drain. Turned out we were a little too strict and dropped app reinstall events.

Happy New Year! We hope you had a great holiday season and are excited about what lies ahead in 2023. Feature-wise, we're focusing this year on our most popular request, on a feature no one asked for, and on Digital Wellbeing, among other things. We want to start 2023 with an update giving you insights on your last year's phone use:

⌚️ Your 2022's Phone Use

You'll see estimates on your top apps - how often you launched (and opened their notifications) and how long you used them. These estimates are based on your Niagara Launcher usage and are calculated on-device. Whether you are trying to cut screen time, want to check your phone usage habits, or are just curious, we hope you enjoy the quick review!

🐛 Bugfixes
• We fixed Niagara Launcher opening its search when pressing the home button while being in the recent apps screen
• We fixed the order in which multi-day calendar events are listed in the Your agenda sheet (#1504)
• Moreover, we fixed several shortcut-related bugs (e.g., that shortcut icons could be missing or could not be removed)

Niagara Launcher v1.8.6 · Stability Patch & Morning Mode Announcement

🌅 Morning Mode
We're planning to release a preview of morning mode, our next digital wellbeing feature, early next year in our beta channels. It will be based on the results of the survey from a few weeks ago and the results of our digital wellbeing initiative. 🐛Bugfixes

• Shortcuts: We fixed an issue that could block adding shortcuts.
• Fonts: Our fonts were displayed incorrectly if you have a Samsung One UI 5 device and applied a system-wide font through Samsung's settings; we fixed that.
• Niagara Pro: Niagara Launcher warned some users that their membership couldn't be verified. Niagara Launcher now tries to troubleshoot the issue automatically and gives better instructions on how to solve it manually.
• App close gesture animation (supported on Pixel phones, Samsung One UI 5 phones, and a couple of devices): We now support animating back from more apps and shortcuts (e.g., the Google app did not animate previously)

🐛 Bugfixes

• If you have a Samsung device and updated to OneUi 5, you might have noticed the weird semi-transparent background behind the media player; that was a glitch. That's no more the case.
• We resolved an issue that prevented users from upgrading to Niagara Pro Lifetime after they canceled their subscription.
• We squashed a bug that prevented some users from restoring on their secondary device.
• We fixed a crash that could occur after canceling the Niagara Pro subscription—not an appropriate way to say goodbye.

🪙 Purchasing Niagara Pro

• We now accept payments via Alipay in China for Niagara Pro Lifetime. (Alipay is a highly popular payment method in China.) We also requested Alipay let you buy our Niagara Pro Yearly Subscription via Alipay and are waiting for approval.
• As we've written in our Going Global post, we're increasing the prices of Niagara Pro (in most countries) for new customers. If you've purchased Niagara Pro before this date, nothing will change for you. We had to delay the Google Play rollout, and Alipay is only supported since today. Because we want to give everyone enough time to decide whether to opt for the lower price, we're postponing our price increase by a couple of days. Prices will increase in about two weeks.

🐛 Bugfixes

• We disabled the app close animation for Samsung Android 11/12 devices because Samsung doesn't seem to handle it appropriately on those Android versions.
• We fixed an issue that reset the Niagara Dots icon pack while upgrading to v1.8.
• We fixed an issue that could rarely break our Niagara ID system while upgrading to v1.8.
• We fixed another issue that prevented some non-Google-Play-users from purchasing Niagara Pro.

Niagara Launcher v1.8.2 Beta · App-Close Animation is back

✨ On Pixel phones and other devices where the preinstalled launcher supports it, the closed app animates nicely to its icon on Niagara Launcher's homescreen. A behavior change in Android 12 caused the bug, and both Niagara Launcher and the preinstalled launcher needed some code changes for it to work.

• Fix the weather location chooser not showing the current location option
• Fixed the home-to-search gesture triggering accidentally when opening an app and immediately returning Niagara Launcher before the open animation was completed.
• Enforce full width for big notification pictures
